Code of Conduct

Note: This document is a draft and has not been formally approved. Members are welcome to contribute to it, noting that until an approved version is frozen, the edit history of the document is the primary protection against destructive or unilateral changes.

Encouraged Behavior

Here are some things we think will make everyone's experience of Mastodon better, but these are only suggestions.

We encourage you to be welcoming of people with many backgrounds, which includes trying to address misunderstandings from a place of respect.
We encourage you to be kind, listen first, act second and do your best.
Please use content notes (or content warnings) liberally (at your discretion), particularly for:
- Content that would be reasonably expected to be harmful to any group, particularly marginalized groups.
- Includes flashing or rapidly changing images.
Your well-being is important. Filter, mute, and block when needed.
DMs are not end-2-end encrypted. Please do not use DMs to send any confidential information that you won't be comfortable sharing with the system admins and moderators.
When sharing images, please provide alt-text.
You are encouraged to report any behavior you see both on our instance (see Mastodon/Conflict Resolution) or on any other instance (See: Federation Abuse Policy) that violates this code of conduct or any other neuromatch.social policies. Reports are how our moderation team keeps the instance safe for everyone.

Unacceptable Behavior

We're all free speech absolutists here, and by that we mean there are things in your free speech that we absolutely won't allow. Specifically —

No bigotry of any kind is allowed.
Discriminatory language, sexism, racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia are right out.
No fascism. No nazism. No genocide denial. No genocide apology. Simple as.
No doxing
No harrassment or otherwise repeated unwanted contact
No nonconsensual or illegal sexual material
No content that is illegal in the US under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, Communications Decency Act, or any other applicable law.
No impersonation of individuals or organizations without intent to parody - except public figures impersonated without actual malice.
That being said, we're quite reasonable.
