== Arguments == Plz feel free to add your own here === For Defederation === * Safety: Their moderation system is substantially misaligned with our code of conduct, and hateful content runs rampant on their platform. Notable examples include libsoftiktok, among others. * Moderation burden: Accordingly, it will likely be difficult to moderate content from threads, since it would be an absolutely humongous instance. * Scraping/surveillance: Meta is an advertising company, and they do not have benign intentions in joining the fedi. In the interest of a healthy internet, we should resist attempts made to scrape and use our members posts as algorithmic engagement fodder for threads users * Being a good neighbor: Many instances will likely defederate from instances that don't defederate from thread, and I think we should try and place nice with other servers - I think we are probably more closely aligned to those instances that want to defederate from threads than we are to threads itself. * Embrace, extend, extinguish: A well-trod pattern in tech behemoths for crushing rival open protocols - pretend like you love the protocol, build fancy tools for it, take ownership of the protocol, shut it down.
